Hi all,

I have recently taken a new job, and would like to see my apprentice go to a good owner. i can fully reccomend him, very bright, energetic, good with customers, well on course to be a very good engineer. He's 19 with a full driving liscence and has his hand tools. He has been studying plumbing and gas, he starts his final year of gas in september. He is based in Bromley, but prepared to travel. He has done 14 months with Pimlico Plumbers, before me. So is used to working to a reasonable/good standard.

any questions please reply or pm me

Thanks

shame i've had no responses, i know he's sent his c.v off to every local company he can find. I've actually had 3 other out of work apprentices contact me within the last 6 weeks or so. doesn't llok like a good time for finding a new job!!

I suggest that he approach Cassidys in Kensington High Street as they are really busy or he could ask in Nu-line plumbers merchants in Westbourne Park Road as they are a busy pit stop for plumbers and very approachable. good luck

Back to Pimlico  Surely that 100 year old geezer has "gorn " from there by now

he did enjoy his time at pimlico, although he said he didnt work on boilers enough. i believe all pimlico workers are sub contracters? so was working directlty and being paid by the sub contracter. when that guy was a bit quiet he couldnt afford to keep him on.

did put in the first post, he is based in Bromley but prepared to travel, i was paying him £60 per day. 4 days a week

Bg are taking on. although he will have to stump up £16000.00 yes thats £16000.00 on training, so all this crap about "ill work for free" **** off you will pay us to train you more like. £60 a day he should be paying you mate.

Ah so refreshing the attitude to the next generation of plumbers. I suppose everyone on here worked 12hrs a day, seven days a week, never asked for more than a good beating for pay, took the bosses shoes home to clean for them, supplied all the their own tools fittings, and tube when they were training.
C'mon guys (and girls), try to remember that someone was willing to overlook the fact that you were once a ne'er dowell lickspittle feckless spotty youth, and offer you the leg up that you needed.

tbh I think £65 a day for someone with plumbing experience, albeit limited is good value. I currently pay £45 to a first yr trainee who can't do alot other than lump things around and work as a general dogs body. I wouldn't be willing to take someone on free of charge, I don't think it would work out in the long run.

its not free! your training them! bg charge £16000 pound how much do these training academy charge ££££££££ and your providing top notch training i trust.. so there you go.. next time he asks for a pay rise tell him that ;)

One has to be realistic about the location.

Whilst he may be prepared to travel that has to be taken in context, up to 40-50 min each way perhaps. Otherwise its going to out of the question.

His current pay of £60 a day is not that bad for someone with limited experience and with Ni and employers liability insurance will cost you about £76 a day. You have got to make sure you will gain say £100 a day benefit from that included when he is sick or there is not work for him to do.

So this is a job for someone in SE London or NW Kent.

He is accustomed to earning a fair wage and does not think of himself as training ( although of course he still is ! ).

Tony

if someone comes and works with me then yes they are learning but I'll also make sure they're working. If I need someone to spend most of the day humping rads around or driving around picking up materials they learn little yet I benefit. Thats unfair. I'd rather pay so that I don't have any reservations in telling them to do some mundane labour intensive task. Its hardly alot of money. My current trainee earns his worth. On installs he saves me 2-3hours a day. Time which I can use to carry out reactive repairs.

You'd think a young chap like that would be a great asset to anyone in the London area, after all they know how to charge down in that sh.. hole!!
