I have occasionally seen PCs with a turbo button, and didn't believe they coud really make it go faster.

I happened to buy a new keyboard the other day... and it has a turbo button on it! Doesn't seem to do anything.

Does anyone know what they're for?

decoration mostly.

turbo button on keyboard wont do anything unless your pc has turbo facility

From what I gather the old 486 computers had these buttons installed so they could be run at two speeds, when the button was not pressed in the machine would run slower, when pressed in the machine would run at its intended speed.

yes thats correct

if i remember rightly mine ran at 8mhz or 66mhz.

There was a cable that connected from the turbo button onto the motherboard.

Was used for legacy apps (mainly dos applications)

Though i dont know what the turbo button would be doing on a keyboard...

The button was used for slowing down the processor for some games where the screen speed was controled by the processor sometimes things moved a tad to guick to shoot those aliens!, but why you would want one of those now is beyond me.

Maybe it speeds up the cooling fan?

Read the info that came with the keyboard it might give some clue
