I was just thinking about the wiring in new houses (it's Sunday afternoon, what can I say!).

Now, when it comes to a TV aerial on a new house, who installs it? I was thinking, probably a builder bolts it to the side of the house, then a spark installs the outlet plates inside the house. But, what about terminating the cable in the aerial? Who does that? Do electricians like climbing ladders up the sides of houses? Or are builders allowed to do up these two screws?

Or am I totally wrong and they get specialised aerial installers to do the lot?

One of the great mysteries of life, help me solve it

any one can do it, but you can get specialist aerial guys (going on a roof for a tv aerial mmmmmmmmm no thanks)

Yeah. Look in YP under TV & radio aerials - there are loads of co's that just do aerials, dishes, fv etc...

they are not good with dishes, i rang one up and asked would they come and clean mine as i was fed up with the washing up

Usualy on new houses the electricians install the coax & outlet plates & then leave the cable coiled in the roof space - I've been to many calls on a Sunday where the people who just moved in had no idea they needed an aerial.

I agree with thingy...... most builders "forget" to tell new buyers that they will need an aerial of some sort before they can use the TV.

Don't you just love loft ariels giving superb pictures ... Besides no flooding, a benefit of hill encampment ;)

We just leave the cables in the loft, sometimes install a booster ready.

We do install aerials if they are in a decent receptive area, and we can just plonk a bog standard up.

Why dont you fit a "half decent" outdoor aeriel to new dwellings? If you dont want the cable to flood from the top just mount the thing "wrong way up" works exactly the same and wont get water in the cable even if you leave the cap off.

So that answers it: new houses don't generally come with aerials! Seems incredible to me that you spend several hundred thousand pounds and then have to pay more for an aerial. It won't break the bank to get a guy to come and install one, but it just seems like a shortcoming, like if they fitted doors but left out the handles. Even with satellite I would prefer to have an aerial too.

But then I suppose floormats and mudflaps are usually optional extras on cars.

Just looked at dwgs (that was useful extra with one owner house !!) for my home .. came with stnd TV sockets Lounge and dining room 1968, I guess cable coiled in loft.

BTW. Not really a thing we have been concerned about when moving .. to us a triviality ... then we are of a different age ... TV just a tiny part of life really.
I guess if you buy new 'off plan' then you can negotiate 'extras' ... just like in a car purchase ... mudflaps and mats- yes !!

No floods as a by product of hill living .. digression from topic !!! ;)
