Hi Guys,
I've got a new house and in the process of installing my new television.
Their is some cables going from the top to bottom of wall, and trying to remove the unwanted cables seems very difficult.
When I tug on them they just don't seem to move!?!
Anyone got any ideas / suggestions.

The wall may be plasterboard that has been stuck to the brickwork with plaster dollops (dot and dab).

Your cables are possibly stuck in a chunk of plaster. Why not leave them in the wall, they wont do any harm there..

Its got 5 cables which appear to just be cut off both ends with no real purpose and want to feet some cables for my DVD player though it but can't because the unused ones are taking up all the room?
The wall is a stud wall, no brick in their afaik

It is possible as suggested by Taylortwocities, that the plasterboards are applied to the walls, using board adhesive, if so by tugging at them you are going to detach the board from it's fixing point.
Also could just be routed through tight holes are even trapped between board and stud work.

Certainly NOT a stud wall then ;)

The cables are likely stuck in the dabs of wall adhesive. I guess this is why they were cut and not removed.

You would think someone going to that effort would have put some duct, or at least conduit in the wall...

EDIT - I swear your picture changed while I replied. Either way, it still looks like a dry lined 'dot and dab' wall (can see breeze blocks). Your first pic seemed to show red bricks before you swapped it?

I uploaded the wrong picture, then changed it so you must have seen the wrong one! sorry !
Do you rekon I should remove the back box and see if I can see anything else.

You will usually find the cables have been clipped to the wall, and the plasterboard stuck on top, with dabs of adhesive more than likely over the cables in places.

If the box will come out without damaging the wall too much, it's worth a look, but I don't think it's going to be an easy fix.

Why would they clip the cables to the wall? Is this normal practice? You think I should just give it a good old yank?

the cables are clipped to stop them coming out accidentally!

I wouldn't reccomend just yanking on them, it's likely to do a lot of damage if it goes wrong!

The cables are clipped to keep them on the wall until/while the walls are dry lined!

All you can do is try - Looks like you might be cutting a chase into the wall - Not as bad as you think as it's plasterboard, little dust, some filler and paint.

just unsure as to why they bothered putting a box in the wall if they was going to make them impossible to remove!
