Recently purchased a new TV and DVD recorder. Have been using a scart lead for connection but just tried out some new component leads and found the picture inferior the to the scart lead connection.
I thought that component leads were the best connection possible apart from HMDI.
Would be interested in any comments
Cheers

what sort of component leads? RedGreenBlue or Red-White-Yellow

Red Green Blue carries those colours individually as components. This is known as RGB component, and requires red and white sound phono leads too. I believe one can purchase RGB scart leads, but only top-of-the-range stuff has RBG scart support, but the lead will still work.

Red white yellow carries left, right, video signals (one wire for each) and this is how most scart leads work. Thus this sort of cable and scarts are interchangeable with little picture difference, but scarts also carry certain data info, such as when you press play on your VCR, the TV puts the VCR signal on screen.

scart is rgb/composite video by design (and later extended to s-video as well). afaict DVD players and digital TV boxes generally give rgb out on thier scarts and most decent (and even many chap) TVs can process RGB input. VCRs don't tend to bother with RGB output though.
