In the process of decorating our hall and fitting downlighters and uplighters.

We have one circuit switched from the front door only (now uplighters), one on a two way from the bottom of the stairs to the Kitchen (downlighters) and one two way (bottom to top of stairs) Uplighters.

Would be convenient to have all the downlighters on one circuit switched from three locations but this means a two gang with a single intermediate - does this require a grid switch or are they available as two gang units?

If you require a 2-gang intermediate switch, you'd have to use a grid combination i think.

To use an intermediate as a two way do you just link the two terminals on on "side" of the switch to the common wire?

No links, just use an L1 as common and both L2s for the strappers. (If you inserted a link the light would not switch off).
