Both very positive and inspiring articles. Both remind me that we British have become so complacent and lazy that we are lucky to have immigrants willing to do the jobs we reject as too much hard work.
On the negative side, some immigrants do not come here to earn a good living and improve themselves. Some come from societies where people are a good deal more desperate and cunning than us and who didn't grow up with the basic idea of honesty instilled in them. To these people our systems, still largely based on trust, are easy prey.
I have no objection to the first type, I welcome them. But I wish we could find a way of throwing out the second type along with their families.

I don't see what ancient history has to do with things. The fact is that we are a small country full to the rafters. We can't keep building cities, schools and hospitals. Nothing to do with race issues - just pragmatism.
I think we should also consider the effect of a brain-drain on places like Poland. Where do they get their teeth fixed? Or a house built?

By the way I do belief the Romans ,vikings,saxons and normans were invading armies ,not refugges or migrant workers

Huzzah. All is well in this green and pleasant land, it says so in The Independant. In the words of an old Boomtown Rats song, "don't believe what you read". No point arguing on this, as only bas and the mods appear to be allowed opinions on here now.
