Hi, I am doing a patio and fake grass. I researched to install a 100mm sub base. I needed around 15tonne and was too much to barrow in by myself so I had someone come in.

Straight away telling me I don’t need 100mm for patio subjected to foot traffic.

Mainly levelling by eye and telling me the cement bed will make it up ( but won’t uneven areas cause instability)

I saw them compacting areas of about 80mm at once, would that have compacted down enough and been stable? They only went round once? How would I be able to check if it’s ok all the way through?

Lastly, it was type 1 granite but was some fairly big bits in it and there are areas where larger pieces are clustered together and are loose to kick? Especially rounder the edges.

Is there like a fine aggregate that I could go over the top and compact all in so nothing is loose? Or does it need taking round a bit and these areas dispersed ?

Thanks in advance
