Hi All,

Need some advice regarding the tyrolean applicater gun.

We had an extension built last year and the exterior render was applied using the applicater using a sand and cement mix. This was completed by builders and the overal job was good.

My question is, I've recently had new windows fitted and some of the walls around them have been chipped off. I've hired the applicater gun from the shop, just to touch up the bits around the sills and windows. However I cannot get it spray at all, i've tried a dry mix and a wet mix but it didnt spray at all.

Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything?? Should the gun be able to spray a normal sand a cement mix?

I'm unsure to whether the machine is broken.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Will it flick anything at all, water even?

If you could post a pic of the inside to see the tines it would be helpful, are they rubbing against somthing like a small bar or just going around and around without any resistance?

Wear glasses if you are looking in while you work it!

Thanks for your reply, it would not flick anything, tried a dry mix and a wet mix. Even tried just water and nothing.

Not even one flick out of the machine!

The metal tines turn and hit the metal bar.

I've taken it back to the hire shop for a replacement, but just want to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong and the machine was actaully broke.

Thanks,

I cannot suggest whats wrong but there is usually an adjustment of the anount of impingement on the bar.

However, its essential to have the right wetness of the mix.

I am surprised that your builder managed with a cement mix.

I did my first extension of about 80m² and used the tirolean to match the pebbedash. I used the same method for my second extension of about 16m².

I experimented and used a cement:lime:soft sand in a ratio of about 1:3:12

That gives a quite sticky mix and I used it at a consistency of soft porridge. It sticks well to the tines and flicks out in the right size subject to the correct bar and speed settings.

All the instructions ask you to buy the special tirolean mix but thats quite expensive and my mix is very cheap.
