I've finally arranged to have my house re-rendered and the plan is to give it a Tyrolean finish.

The guy that is going to do the job tells me he'll get just as good a finish (and protection) using sand, cement and waterproofer as he would if he used a specific tyrolean product.
He's going to hack off ALL the old render and start from 'scratch' so to speak  (doh!)

He tells me that a good quality exterior masonry paint will be just as effective.
Anyway, is he right or is it worth paying the extra for Cullamix or whatever its called?

Wll the cullamix give a better durability and level of protection?

Can't comment on your particular project but what I can tell you from some knowledge of the paint industry is that you certainly get what you pay for. I don't think I know of any other industry where it's possible to make a product so bady at one end of the quality spectrum or so well at the other. A quality paint will simply contain more of those ingredients like fungicides, UV absorbers and opacifiers, which will keep it looking good for longer.

Thanks

If I do decide to go with sand and cement then I'll finish it off with something like Sandtex, Dulux weathershield or such like.

Just worried about how to fix it when the paint starts to peel off, but then I guess in 10 years time I won't be living there!!!
