"System restore"

If you don't already know what it is I will guess that you have not recently stored a restore point.

It restores settings to a point from the recent past. it helps if you do a backup before each time you make a system change. You can have multiple restore points stores at multiple dates, and choose which one to use. If you go wrong you just restore to the last date when it was working properly.

It does not remove data, e.g. mail and documents you have created or altered since the restore point was stored.

 don't know.

start backing up your data to CDs, if you haven't recently done it, especially anything of value such as photos.

I have a feeling you might need them.

You can use "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" if you have it (files only).

p.s.

What version of Windows do you have, and what method did you use to delete your programs?

Have you got your Windows Installation disks?

Are you talking about tabbed browsing, like you get in Internet Explorer 7 (or indeed Firefox)?

I shouldn't imagine deleting any programmes would affect that. Unless, it's images within web pages you can't see, then that could be to do with ActiveX or Javascript.

Do they sound like anything you've recently deleted?

Thanks for your replies. I have Windows XP and I deleted the programs using the normal way: right clicking and selecting "delete" nothing complex. I also noticed that I can not read my emails in Yahoo (they appar blanket) and i can not delete them either. When I try to delete the bulk folder, in the bottom left corner ofthe screen appears "javascript:empty folder" not sure if this is a clue about the problem...

Can you give us an example of what folders you have deleted in this way.

Programs should be uninstalled through add/remove programs in the control panel.

It would be worth re-installing Internet explorer 7, if indeed this is what you refer to when having problems with opening tabs.

Some of the programs i deleted them using add/delete feature but others in the "wrong" way I am afraid. I deleted programs which I did not use any more such as DVD player/recorder etc.
This Java Script that apears when I point my mouse in the "empty" box in my email, do you think it has something to do?Does it give you a clue about the problem?

I downloaded Firefox and it works now!!! Thanks a lot to all for your input.
I am a happy man now... well not happy happy but more happier than before. Thanks

Uninstall IE7 from Control Panel>Add/Remove programmes.

Honestly, it's the best move you'll ever make.

Firefox rocks. It's more stable and faster than Internet Explorer. I constantly had problems with web sites crashing out on me when I used IE. Doesn't happen now.
