Under stairs shaped hot water cylinder

Is there such a thing as a triangular hot water cylinder that maximises the available space under the stairs?

I can't find anything on Google so I'm pretty sure there isn't and suspect this may be due to the way they are designed to allow hot water to rise to the top.

My existing tank is 180 litres and uses the full height under stairs but there is space behind it as the stairs go down to the ground floor. Relocating a new tank and pipes will require an expensive wooden floor to be ripped up so I'm trying to avoid this if possible.

I haven't seen a triangular one, but horizontal cylinders are available if that helps.

I am not very sure exactly what you are trying to achieve.

Depending on how many live there, then 180 li although not ideal, should cover somewhat careful use by 3-4 people.

Many on this forum would be happy with that size for 4 or even more IF the cylinder was heated by a boiler with hot water priority.

There are 3 of us in the house and we run out of hot water every day even with it being heated for at least two hours by two immersion heaters prior to morning showers etc. We are a growing family so our hot water consumption will only increase. This is why we want to increase the capacity rather than ration the hot water use.

Electrically heated is a different matter.

That very limited heating time makes me wonder if you are even giving enough time to reheat.

Would you do an experiment please and leave both immersions on for 24 hours and see how it responds then?

How about turning the immersion heater temperature up? They could just be set too low.

Change the heat source.

I may have my thinking wrong, but just like a car uses less fuel when it's up to speed and cruising along compared to accelerating from 0-60 all the time, doesn't it make sense (in a well insulated hot water cylinder) to leave it on 24/7 irrespective of whether you use electricity or gas to heat the water? I always have our hot water on continuous.

Thanks Motman and Tony. I'm going to switch on both immersion heaters 24/7 for a week and will see how it impacts us running out of water. I'll update this post after my test.

I checked the temperature settings last week and tweaked them up slightly but they were almost maxed out anyway.

Maybe only one of your immersion elements is working? When you have used the hot water in the tank, turn both of them down. Then turn one up to maximum and listen for it heating the water. Then turn that one down and try the same with the other. After they 'click' when turning them up, you should get a noise like you get when you put the kettle on.

If you use a listening stick you can usually hear them humming and hissing if they are on.

I would have thought that a skilled plumber, maybe in the top 100, would be able to knock the cylinder into a suitable shape to fit?
