We are decorating our 6 year old's bedroom with white low odour water based satin paint. The problem is, we in-advertantly (don't ask  ) used a couple of coats of solvent based undercoat to paint over what appeared to be dark green vinyl silk, that's what it looked like after removing the whinnie the pooh wallpaper anyway.

On the undercoat tin it says "for interior & exterior use on wood and metal", and also has a high VOC content (25%-50%).

it's now dry and covered by 2 coats of the aforementioned low odour water based satin paint (minimal VOC content 0%-0.29%).

1 -Is there any danger to health, considering it's on all the walls?
2- Is it ok to mix solvent based products with water based products?
3 -Should we have used water based undercoat or would that have reacted to the vinyl silk???

VOC=Volatile..ie solvent that evaporates, that`s why paint smells.......when dry it`s fine

Nice one Nige.

Probably worth mentioning neither of us felt noticeably ill in any way while painting. As long as it's fine now it's dry we can rest easy
