I'm in the middle of insulating the living room floor/garage ceiling in my 1970s semi and am planning on installing a new garage door. I was thinking of getting a segmented door that would run up and along the ceiling, but the concrete lintels that support the chimney breast in the living room are in the way. However, most of the lintels are sticking out in mid air and I'm wondering if I can just chop those ends off, which would give enough room for the garage door.
It seems reasonable that I could cut the bits that are just sticking out after where they support the floor joist, but is there something I'm missing that means I shouldn't?
Thanks awfully for any advice!
