Underfloor heating

Hi.

I will be building a 3 bed dormer Bungalow with a total floor area of around 110 m2.

I am planning on installing underfloor heating throughout the whole property, but would like some advice on the best system to use.

I have ruled out electric due to the running cost, so it will be a wet system.

There is a high possibility that the property will be rented out, so I am looking for something that will last long term and is also efficient.

Any advice appreciated.

It would be normal to employ an experienced installer who would advise you.

If you must risk doing it yourself then there is a high risk that you might get it wrong and that can be expensive.

I saw one where a mad DIYer had used 90m of 10 mm copper pipe. Not surprisingly there was virtually no flow!

I'm going to be using a friend for the plumbing throughout the house.

He only has a couple of years experience, but I have confidence in him.

However I'm not sure what experience he has with underfloor heating, so I'll have to find out.

Would you advise using someone that specialises in it or is a general plumber OK.

Rehau are good and their everloc jointing system is second to none and eliminates pipe waste.
16mm pex and very easy to lay.

Would you want a heart bypass by a surgeon with just two years experience? Or someone who has specialised in cardiology for 21 years?

I know there is this idea that plumbing is very simple and only a suitable career for academic failures. The reality is that there are many facets to plumbing.

I would hope that a plumber with two years experience could do a reasonable job of changing a toilet or basin.

Hi Agile.

I spoke to my friend yesterday to ask him of how confident he is on installing the underfloor heating.

He advised that I had U/F heating downstairs only and Rads upstairs, He said that this was the setup That most people like and he has done it a few times.

After installation he pressure tests the system to 10 bar for 24 hours.

Although he has only been a plumber for 2 years he is very eager to learn multiple things and his business is going in the right direction.

He has just trained to be able to work on and fit a few different types of solar power and is now allowed to work with gas.

The reason that I'm keen on using him is that Building property is now going to be a full time job for me and it will run a lot smoother if I only have to deal with one person for all plumbing.

I've just been reading through the G,S,H,P technology and this is something else I am very interested in using on the properties.

One other factor is cost, I'm sure it would cost me a fortune if I had to employ different companies for each thing.

I'm going to use him on this first project and then go from there.
