Hi.I'm getting my double garage converted into a 2 story house extension with the bottom floor as a playroom.

I'm laying the laminate floor myself but boggled by the number of options on underlay and wondered what experiences people have on them. Is paying for the more expensive product going to give a direct yield noticeable increases in performance(sound proof/heat) etc is what im wondering. For the playroom, quieter but well insulated and well cushioned is what im looking for. Good thing is, nice new screed floor should be pretty well flat all the way through.

I've seen the following from various websites and torn between a few...they being

1) Cushion Acoustic Gold underlay? (http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/Accessories/Cushion_Acoustic_Gold_Underlay.html)

2) Diall Sound Reducing Grey Underlay (http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/flooring/wood-laminate-flooring/underlay_for_wood___laminate_flooring/Diall-Sound-Reducing-Grey-Underlay-7-5m2-12608622?skuId=13129328)

and...

3) Fairly straight forward 5.5mm fibre boards(http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/Accessories/Fibre_Boards_5.5mm_Underlay.html)

Are these good choices?

I have no clue and all the ratings provided with each product don't help at all as everyone is happy with everything. Maybe thats a clue, but if something really is better or likely to be significantly better than the other then i'll give it a go.

Many thanks for any feedback/advice anyone can offer.

We would recommend a rubber underlay that has good thermal qualities that has a build in Damp Proof Membrane. These are generally a silver or gold foil already attached to the underlay. The foil would be put face down to the subfloor.
