Hi, was just having a look on the screwfix website and am highly confused by their screw sizes, for example:

wood screws
silver screw wood screw= 10*4"
Gold screw wood screw= 4.5*60

Masonary screws
7.5*100

what do these numbers/sizes mean?

Thanks for any help

Hi thanks, does help a lot! One last thing- when using wall plugs how do you know what screw size to use in them?

For example if I use a 5mm wall plug I take it I will need to use a 5 mm diameter screw? In terms of Guages 5mm = a 10 guage screw? (going by this chart)
http://freespace.virgin.net/matt.waite/resource/handy/screwsize.htm)

I have also found the below link which shows what screw size to use depending on plugs

http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/wall-plugs.htm

however it just says number next to the screw sizes which I imagined to be guage numbers- could someone please confirm that this is the case? Thanks a lot for your help
