uneven floor

hi, I would love to have a wooden floor in my lounge, but the problem is we have a through lounge and one floor is higher than the other [was origanally two rooms] about one inch, we have floor boards, so my question is can this be rectified so I can have my wooden floor.

Why shouldn't it be rectified? Increase the existing floor 1 inch or create a step.
