There was a similar item which involved stainless steel pegs which formed around the nut, and then a cover slid down to lock them in place.....clever design on the surface but doomed to failure when put under any pressure.

In all of those examples the fittings and threads are nicely clean and new. I wonder if it works well, or otherwise, on a rusty gnarled up set. Clearly it is quite bulk too, but acceptbly so when working with larger fittings with plenty of space.

I'd still use the right size socket from a set where ever possible but I can see a few applications where that might be handy. One for the tool box that maybe gets used once a year
