Unlocking mobiles

I have recently lost my phone and am looking for another of the same model, used.

I have seen some on fleabay that are locked to other networks (mine is Vodafone)

How difficult is it to get phones unlocked, and is it effective?

I bought two phones on another network to the one i normally use and had them unlocked to use on orange,(will also work on other networks) Should cost between £5.00 and £10.00.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can find instructions via google. Unlocked an orange Samsung that way.

There are load of sites online that can generate unlock codes free of charge - just google for htem.
