Depends what your perception of unvented cylinder is. An unvented cylinder does not require draindown to allow work to be carried out on heating system. BB's beloved heatstore (that also gives mains pressure hot water), will need to be drained down if heating pipes are to be disconnected

Just drain the heating system.

Hopefully you have an electric immersion element on the cylinder?

If so you can use it for hot water and do the rad at your leisure.

If not then it will probably have the element and you just need to connect it up.

A simple emergency solution if there is no immersion spur is to have a long enough lead to get to the nearest socket and just plug it in when needed.

One properly installed has full-bore isolation valves to the CH. I can't account for cowboys.

Well that takes care of nearly all new build ones then. Never come across one fitted with valves

Nor have I. Wasn't mentioned when I did the G3 cert.
