I will try and be as clear as possible, please bear in mind that i have no idea what i'm talking about....

I work for a church in east london and i was up on the roof the other day, clearing a few leaves etc and noticed that some small patches of the thick, grey roof material are wearing away a little around a skylight.

Underneath there appears to be some sort of tape, a bit like joint tape. I am worried that when it rains, this might become a problem.

Is there anything i can paint over this tape to make it waterproof or anything else i can do?

Many thanks for all your help.

I have moved this info to your original thread,

No need to have two with the info spread between them.

See this or this

You have a mesh netting underneath and coated with bitumen/ruberoil type, There're plenty roof repairs materials to chose from many diy superstore

That`s something like Decadex...or similar.......Masona`s dead right about the repair ;) .......not like the sort of church roof I`m "familiar" with

it looks like a repair to an asphalt roof, the tape is called scrim and is used with a waterproof resin as reinforcement.you might get away with applying another coat of resin, best purchased from a good roofing supplier,5lt tin should do it just brush on like thick paint, ask for aquapol or aquasheild
