Have received a surveyors report on a possible house purchase which suggests a need for an 'upgrade to the ring main', which seems a bit vague.

What does this mean, and how much approx would it cost, the house is an old 3 bed semi.

Thanks.

It is. Ask them what they mean.

Perhaps the surveyor means a ring final circuit. It's unlikely there'd be a ring main in a 3 bed semi. Possibly the surveyor knows eff all about electrics.

Well - yes - we all know he meant that.

Still doesn't help anyone to know what he meant about upgrading it.

RP - presumably you paid for this report, therefore you are legally entitled to receive a competent service provided by someone capable of carrying out the survey you requested.

If they write a report which contains rubbish then you're entitled to demand that they re-write it to be an accurate and professionally written document using proper terminology.

And, as you say, if necessary to have the survey performed again by someone who is competent.
