Hi can somebody help me please. We have a double glazed door at our house, our tenants have had a locksmith out three times to replace the barrel and lock as door seizes up, now they are saying its the mechanism that has gone. (We beleive the first time they forgot their keys)
They say that its one of those things that just happens. There is no reason why. The door is only 2.5 yrs old, so prob under guarantee, but how do I know that someone hasn't broken the mechansim by playing around/changing the lock, abusing the door? Any ideas?

Hi

Any door 2.5 years old, fitted and made correctly should not give you any problems during normal day to day use.

However locks do fail but there is usually a good reason ie:quality, misuse, faulty etc

Good Luck

If the door is seizing up - ie the handles are difficult to move when locking/unlocking the door, it's a fair bet the mechanism is faulty. But if it's only 2.5 years old, it must have had some serious hammer !. Other things to look at are the strike positions in relation to the mechanism rollers/mushrooms/hooks etc. if these aren't correctly alligned, then it can make closing the door difficult. As stated, a Locksmith or glazing repair outfit should be able to correctly identify/remedy the problem.
