UPVC Door - Needs Adjustment - How?

Hi all,

Hoping you can help me please. I realise this has been discussed before but with all doors/hinges being different, I could do with some specific advice.

I have French doors which are upvc. The one on the right of them is too high and has a gap underneath letting in a draught (and slugs!). It tends to get a little ‘stuck’ to the left one when you try to open it and needs a bit of a push, which is less of a problem for me, but the draught and slugs have got to go. I don’t know who the doors came from, they were installed before I moved in.

I’ve attached some photos of the hinges - you can do some adjusting with an Alan key on the top only from what I can see. I’ve tried rotating counter clockwise on all 3 hinges but it didn’t seem to do anything.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

That's an SFS hinge, ideally you need a SFS spanner lateral adjustment, if you look at those 3 pins you'll see the middle one is a hex, tightening or loosening moves the door sideways. To move up or down I think there is a Allen bolt under each hinge pin, undoing it should lower the door if in fact it's been lifted by that method in the past

Ohh that you so much! That is so incredibly helpful. Someone quoted £120 to fix it which felt a little extortionate so I’m really grateful! Will try your suggestion once I get hold of an sfs spanner..

£120 is still not too bad, I currently had a similar issue with door alignment and struggling to get anyone out to look at it.

Did you manage to fix it yourself, I have tried but this is not an easy job imo. Firstly there are multiple points you need to adjust, I have 9 different bolts! and then you need to balance all of them equally. You can't just do one hinge for example, it apparently doesn't work like that.

Small movements and on all of them seemed to help me the best. Just be warned you need patience and trial and error to have any success really.

Check YT for door adjustment videos, plenty on there to give you some rough idea but its not easy imo. For a door/trades with good experience its probably very easy.
