Hello all,

I'm in the process of measuring and ordering upvc windows to fit myself. I'm not sure if i need add ons for the new windows.

I also found the current profile for my windows is abit thicker at (45mm -selecta) then the ones I will be replacing them with (35mm -deceuninck).

So I understand the new frames will be atleast 10mm more behind the plaster then they are now.

Currently as per the pic the frame showing upto the bead varies from 20-30mm (left, right, top)

The smallest add ons the supplier does are 25mm thick.

They will have a sill so bottom is ok.

Do i get the 25mm add ons for the sides and top?

Appreciate any input, thanks.

Thanks for the reply, i gave them specific sizes and they said they can't advise on it unless one of their reps come out but because i'm having supply only they're not coming out.

Normally you just give opening sizes and they make window.
Unless the plaster is really thick (over 30mm I think) then a frame extender maybe required. Always check manufacturers measuring guide though.
I used extender on my back door to pack out hinge side but not on any of the windows

I know someone who recently had windows fitted and add ons is how they made the air vents, 2 shorter add ons were knocked on the top leaving a gap in the middle and then another add on was knocked ontop of that so they now had a hole for the airvent

I can get away without using the add ons but some edges of the window will be really buried behind the plaster like plaster 10mm away from the bead. It will work but i have windows elsewhere in the house that close and it doesnt look good.

Measure plaster to plaster and deduct from the brick size, if the difference is great or say 40mm then think about add on's OR have the frames made in 'heavy' profile or door frame profile

@crank39 Thanks, I just measured the window in the pic i attached.

External height - 1040mm
Internal height -985mm
Height diff - 55mm

External width - 1260mm
Internal width - 1195mm
Width diff - 65mm.

The new window profile is all 10mm less then the current one. So if i go with the 25mm add on ,on the sides and top it should bring the frame in around 15mm more.

I think ill go with that if i cant get the heavier profile. Hopefully the frame being 60mm thick outside doesnt look too out of place.
