I am about to install a shower over my bath in the family bathroom and one in my ensuite.

I have decided to put the pump(s) in the loft to reduce the noise and not have anything bulky on the walls. Do I need to buy two twin/dual pumps, or can one twin pump feed two showers? Can you use one pump and then branch into two sets of hot and cold for the two showers? I realise I would save money by buying one pump (£350 each for 2 bar pump), but is it far more expensive plumbing wise?

p.s. I have a bath shower mixer in the family bathroom, and an old, noisy power shower in my ensuite which has packed up and needs replacing.

Thanks for your help, Zara

First of all pumps should be kept in airing cupboards where possible because they are prone to freezing when in the loft.

Difficult to say whether you will need 2 pumps or 1 as i have no idea what showers you are fitting, i always work to, one pump, one shower.

w3hat about a nice big system pump (3 bar say) and pump everything?

Yes one pump can serve two showers without any problem assuming it is the right type and installed correctly.

You need a dedicated feed from the cold water storage cistern and from the hot water cylinder - follow manufacturer's recommendations precisely.

Speak to Stuart Turner technical dept or look on their website. Their pumps are a bit expensive but they are good. Also you could look at Watermill - although personally I am not too keen on them and there are many more
