Now..please bear with me here, not easy to explain..

While we are mooting the upgrade issue we have taken the guts from our old case and put them into a new one...reason being it has two USB port on the front.

Attached to the two ports are eight wires which we were hoping to connect to the M/B ...well say 'hoping'...we did connect and...you guessed it...no USB!...

The 8 pins on the M/B are set out in 4 pairs of two in a vertical line

The wires are coloured...

2 red

2 black

1 yellow 1 blue 1 green 1 white

Are these standard colours?...and if so...what order do they follow

Thanks

The 'standard' colours for USB are red, black, white and green, these being +5V, ground, D- and D+ respectively. The plugs are often, but not always, marked Vcc , G, D- AND D+. The alternate colours for D+ and D- are often yellow and blue respectively. It's important not to get the Vcc in the wrong place, the others, apart from not working, won't cause damage if placed incorrectly.

Always best to have a manual though.

 My pet hate!
Trial and error is often the way, it's tricky to work out what the motherboard pins are supposed to be. Have a search on the mobo manufacturers website for a diagram.

My last Asus board came with a card detailing what goes where, which is why I heart Asus ;)
