Hi guys

I have a Hitron Chita router that came with virgin media. The power adapter is quite large and interferring with some furniture I have.

Specifications of power adapter output: 12V, 3.5A = 42W
Specifications of router: max 36W power consumption, which I would assume to mean 12V x 3A. (although it has 12V, 3.5A written on the outside)

I could buy one of these with 12V and 3A max power: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-...469300327-B0D1GKJFMB-&hvexpln=74&gad_source=1

Or this one that has 12V and 4A setting: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Basicvolt-...aram=true&qid=1729587157&s=electronics&sr=1-9

Which would be the better option?

Cheers

A switched mode power supply, can produce a very smooth output, or a rather raw output, the spec does not tell you how smooth the output is, or what input is required by the router, so best is always to use the one supplied with it. But larger is OK, smaller is not.

If replacing a power supply I would always get one with at least the same rating as the original.

I would be wary of marketplace sites like amazon, they are frequently used as a channel to sell non-compliant crap, and sometimes even outright counterfiets. I'd also avoid "universal" supplies where possible.

I'd be looking at something more like

You could use an extension or a multiway adaptor so it can go in a more convenient place.

I think I'll go for the extension idea. Great ideas anyway guys. Will definitely help me in future
