just seen the new iphone advert and it has a spirit level app...

seems like a good idea if it's accurate..

any other apps for Iphone, ipods, phones in general or PDA's that are any good for everyday DIY'ers and for the more professional amongst us?

You know what, its lacking a laser.

The possibilities are endless with a laser.

measuring a distance, scanning barcodes (to create a shopping list?), pointing, all sorts.

scanning barcodes (to create a shopping list?),

there is a phone (don't thinks it the iPhone) that can scan a bar code and then give you price comparisons for various retailers - no reason why this couldn't be extended to creating a shopping list

it's a T-Mobile one.. or at least they use it on the advert..
it uses the camera though..

The Nokia N95 has a barcode scanner, that doesn't work. How does it do price comparisons (that is if it actually worked), a barcode is just that a code (EAN 13?)

It does work, scan this image with your N95 and see. It does not read thr traditional barcodes you get on products.

The bit they don't show you is when you scan the barcode (typical highstreet product with the same code in every shop) it will connect to the net, work out what product it is, and then take you to kelko or something for a price comparisson.

So in other words, the CD you scan in HMV may be 70p cheaper in Asda, but by the time you have internet costs and the hassle of going to another shop, it's a pretty useless feature

I have never seen a barcode like that, if "it does not read thr (sic) traditional barcodes you get on products" what use is it?

It is quite a big thing in America and Asia. They are dotted everywhere for adverts etc, you scan it to take you to a website or give you information on something

Next time your ni a supermarket have a look at a bottle of Pepsi Max :D
