Is it possible to use an ordinary circular saw for wall chasing? In other words, fit a grinding wheel or diamond blade to it and then make a couple parallel cuts in the wall.

The benefits would be: I already own one, and it has dust extraction.

I can imagine some safety issues... though it is not a very heavy saw. Also I am not sure if blades would fit it if they are meant for (say) an angle grinder.

Appreciate anyone's thoughts on this...

Thanks!

no you will overload it
you need a purpouse built tool like a wall chaser or angle grinder ;)

Bore of the disc would not fit a 30mm saw arbor and all that grit getting into your saw will do it no good

I forked out £100 quid for a cheap Erbauer wall chaser from Screwfix.

It worked a treat on chasing out the walls for my re-wire, and with a little bit of chiselling afterwards it was also good for burying a run of 22mm copper pipe.

It's obviously not a tool for a pro or a regular user, but it was well worth the money as it saved me a load of time and gave nice clean chases that were easy to fill afterward.

Also buy yourself a big broom to sweep up with afterwards too
