I need to cut a channel down the edge of a fire door to fit seals. I have never used a router and I am thinking of hiring one - I am pretty good with small carpentry jobs (I can hang a door), however, is fitting these strips easy, or one for the professionls?

Many thanks.

just remember the more material you attempt to remove in a pass, the harder it is to control. For DIYer's / inexperienced, myself included in this category, Less material, more passes, greater accuracy.

Oh, and as above have a practise first.

Can you also hire the specialised slotter bits? They cost in the region of £70 to £80, plus VAT.

If you have to buy the bit, and then return the router to the hire shop, the economics of doing the job this way don't look good.

Great advice - thank you.

I will check the prices of the 'bits' before I go ahead.
