I'm decorating the bathroom to get rid of mould. With all the steps & drying time in between I will run out of time in a single weekend and the family will need to shower (having been excluded for 2 days!).

Is it ok to use the bathroom in between primer step and top coat step, i.e.:

wknd 1 - scrape, sand, wash, seal, 2 x primer, 2 x top coat ceiling
mon-fr - showers (window open, extractor fan, dehumidifier just outside bathroom)
wknd 2 - 2 x top coat walls

The sealer is Zinsser Peel stop, and the primer is Zinsser Aqua BIN.

Thanks

Why is the dehumidifier outside of the bathroom? Surely it is the bathroom that you want drying out and not the room outside?
Let the family do their thing (with windows open). Presumably it is only in the mornings for an hour or so? Run the dehumidifier during the full day and night with window and doors closed. repeat Mon to Fri. Come weekend 2, perhaps ask them to not shower these two days. Apply top coats.

Sometimes we just have to work with what we've got. Things aren't always ideal but it's not really a show-stopper.

Outside of bathroom is fine. Plus, best place for an electric item! Water and electrics is a big no no...

My thoughts exactly ... plus if it was in the bathroom it would mean running extension leads, and it would sit between bath and shower which is not ideal in a small bathroom used by kids.

The dehumidifier is in the hallway just outside the bathroom, so will work just fine there.

Thanks for reassurance re using the bathroom in between painting sessions.

Good move but you must keep the window shut, have a minimum 6mm air gap under the door AND make sure it’s used

Cheers - it comes on automatically when lights turned on (but I will investigate having it also connected to a humidistat). It's an inline one, which I believe is the way to go.

Forget the humidistat - they are tricky to set up with any accuracy - just make sure the overrun timer is set for 15 minutes minimum

Will do ... i assume they all have adjustable timers? The electrician fitted it last week ... will get in the loft and investigate,

Does the ceiling really need a primer? We had some bad mould on the bathroom ceiling (I think caused by my delightful) youngest spraying the ceiling with water) anyway I removed all the mould with Cillit Bang black mould remover and slapped on two coats of Zinnser mould resistant paint. BTW if you limit anyone showering to incredibly short and luke warm that will massively reduce condensation during the process, you can adequately shower in less than a minute.
