Is freshly laid mortar likely to crack/shrink in this hot weather? If so what should I do to prevent that?

Many thanks

The mix will dry out quicker than is normally desirable. If you have to lay bricks/blocks in the hot weather, keep the bricks covered to stop them heating too much, as this will only accelerate the drying process. Cover the work with polythene sheet or damp sacking to prevent the work losing its moisture too quickly. I've also heard of people using iced water to make the mix. Don't know how good a tip this is.

flick water across with a brush or use a mister as it dries to prevent it drying to quick and greying.

Right, thanks for the advice guys, I'll do all that. The work I'm doing is actually on the roof and so it's doubly hot up there.
