Hi I don't have a working thermostat and need to turn on the heating on my Vaillant boiler without it. Is there a way to turn it on so that it stays on? (Not 'Chimey sweep mode') because that only stays on for 20 minutes or so.

I’m guessing a combi boiler? Hard to guess which Vaillant you have.

Hey, combi yes. This is the one.

If it’s the same as the Ecotec (looks like it), then press the top right i-button, and if it’s states off, press the plus button beneath it, it should change to 70 degrees and a tick should appear, press the button where the tick is answered that should bring the heating on, however you’ll have to do similar to turn it off. Iirc take the temp all the way down.

Hey, I've just done what you said. But the yellow light still isn't turning on on the boiler as you can see in the photo. I'm so confused because earlier I managed to get it on somehow but I don't remember what I pressed.

The heating heating now doesn't turn on unless I hold down the - & + button for a few seconds but that only puts it into chimney sweep mode and keeps it on for 20 minutes.

Hi how does the salus controller or stat effect it?

I'm so sorry, I'm new here. I literally just signed up an hour ago to use this forum. I actually am so grateful that you replied and would have thanked you at the end of our conversation. Sorry if it came across rude!

Apologies, I thought you hadn’t no thermostat at all. If the existing thermostat is knocked, there’s no override. The only way to bring that on is to join the switching wires.

That's so strange because earlier on in the day I somehow managed to turn it on just by pressing the - & + randomly and it stayed on for hours until it automatically turned itself off (timer) at 6ish like it usually does.

Since then I haven't figured out how to do that again.

Thank you so much for your advice. I'm going to have to just get another thermostat in the week. Really appreciate your time and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

The + & - is chimney sweep mode, which is the maximum rate for the heating, and is often used to gas rate the appliance and may end up costing you slightly more in the gas. Albeit, it should cease after 15 minutes.

Hey, my heating stayed on for the whole night last night somehow. After putting it into chimney sweep mode multiple times in the night, at one point it just didn't turn off. It's still on now. And I have no clue how. The green light is even on on the salus.

Thanks again.

Ahhh I see. Ok I'm not surprised. At the minute, the light is still on lol. It's really strange.

Your boiler pressure is too high in that 2nd photo. Have you tripped the pressure up? If not, then you could have an expansion issue too.
