Moved in a new property, called in a gas engineer to give the boiler a once over, the engineer has advised the boiler is unsafe and cannot be used by until fixed as the seal/insulation behind the cover has disintegrated as well the insulation within the boiler!

Looking for a second opinion as the gas engineer has said the seals/insulation cannot be purchased separately and a new cover will be required, is this correct?

Absolutely spot on. New front cover required as Vaillant don’t do the insulation as a spare. Currently it’s classed as at risk and shouldn’t be used until rectified.

Cheers, will the insulation within the sides of the boiler need replacing too? Can these be purchased?

No and no. The insulation to the sides is just acoustic, whereas the front cover forms part of the combustion circuit, hence the classification of at risk.

Rather than edit a post, I forgot to mention, they ain’t that cheap either. Perhaps consider a second hand one from eBay, obviously in good condition. The foam needs to be around the outer perimeter and the inner outside perimeter of the middle - where the pcb housing sits.

Cheers, brand new your talking £200 or so found a good used one on eBay for £96

Is there anything that can be done to prevent the seal from perishing? I'll be needing a new one in x amount of years again!

I believe the main cause is leaks, especially from the condensate hose - a known failure in certain Ecotec pro models. It should have been changed though, depends on annual servicing.
