Does it have power going to it? You need a multimeter and the skills to use it if you're even going to begin to diagnose this yourself

Hello muggles.
How do I check if it has power going to it? It does switch on and ignite. Whenever i turn on the hot water tap i can here some clicks going on inside the boiler.

If you reach in to the right hand side towards the back of the square box there will be a small rubber "tit" press that if it clicks and the boiler fires you just got lucky, anything else & you will need an oldr engineer

Hello algas. Which square box? could you please point that out from the pics I posted. Thank you

Hello Algas. I did find that black rubber tit. I pressed it while it was off and also pressed it while it was on.Is there a right way to do that?

They all have one thing to say i.e get a new boiler

The boiler is minimum 28 yrs old an whilst a great bit of kit most parts have been obsolete for 10 years. Impossible to diagnose from the info

Hello bunnyman. They still sell parts online.
You'd be surprised how many websites claiming to have a stock of parts for really old boilers turn out not to have any when you try to place an order - don't get your hopes up!

Duncan, when you pressed the "tit" it would have sort of clicked, I think you need to find an older engineer as these boilers are repairable if you can get the bits, or know what you are doing, check that the pump isn't seized by undoing the large screw on the front, a container underneath to catch the water then with a smaller screwdriver turn the impeller clockwise, again you may be lucky.

You need to find an engineer who specialises in repairs !

I say that they are still pretty repairable although some parts like the wax capsule are difficult to find. I have a few in stock for my own customers!

They are a rather different design to most boilers and so someone who has worked on them before will be at a considerable advantage. Most are over 30 years old now but they are solidly made. Their design makes them very fault tolerant and most I go to have at least two faults.

They also have their own particular common faults too.

Tony

Thank you everyone for the advice.
