Hi,
We are vaulting a ceiling approx 2/3rds of the way making a small storage space with the rest of it and fitting two Velux windows in the newly vaulted void.
We have a builder onsite and fast running out of work due to delays getting calcs from the structural engineer.
The architect has suggested in passing that a 'new' purlin may be required, not sure if they mean extra or replace tbh, we have asked for confirmation.
We will probably have to make a call without the SU's calcs, but my question is how could a new / extra purlin help when additional load if any will be in the other direction, in my untrained brain something more like a collar tie will provide more support in the right direction, no?
