Few little things with my van.

Firstly a squeaking from the back when i break. Gradually got noisier 9over the years) . Plus my handbreak isnt that great. I assume the drum breaks need new pads?

The new fault now though is a whirring noise which is more to the front of the vehicle. Only occurs when in gear and gets noisier the faster I go. As its non existent in neatral/clutch-depressed is this a gearbox fault. No oil lights on or anything and the thing has been serviced in the last 12 months.

Its 54 plate (i think)

If your brakes have got noisier over the years and you've had a service in the last 12 months, I think i'd look for another garage to do my servicing, brakes should be looked at on a service especially if the handbrake travel is excessive. The noise from the front sounds like a gearbox problem the earlier astra's were quite prone to it, Some can be done with gearbox in situ (although i'm not sure about 54 plate models) Look for someone specialising in gearbox repairs not main dealers etc

Tell me about it. Its a company vehicle so have no say in who does it but the problems been going a while..

I originally took it to them cos the front breaks were grinding. They repaired it that day saying it only needed pads. All done. 6 weeks later (3 months ago) took it in saying it squeaks at the back when breaking. Picked it up..." we've replaced front discs and pads" Noise went away obviously and noise was back a few weeks later.
