Vauxhall Movano cutting out

Please can someone help me I have an 02 Movano minibus 2.2 diesel and it keeps cutting out you will be just going down the road and the engine cuts out and the glow light comes on !!!!
You have to turn off the ignition and it starts up straight away it has only done 80000 miles miles and the dealer says its the fuel pump falling apart inside and need a complete new fuel system !!!!! I cant believe that as it runs perfectly when running and it does not smoke ect I think it must be a sensor or ?????? there is no muck in the tank or in the filter so I am at a loss and running out of ideas anyone help please!!!!

Get a fault code readout and a second opinion from another garage.

alot of the time the glow plug light will double up as a 'water in the fuel filter' light too, so may be worth swapping that before anything else

Hi thanks for the replies I have a fault code it is 1882 which is low pressure in the common rail but that does not tell you what it is at all..... I have spoken to another vauxhall dealer who say the same replace all the fuel system. I have spoken with bosch they cant think what it is . I have cleaned out tank ,replaced the electric fuel pump which nis outside tank,the filter trap next to it, the main high pressure pump, and even the accelerator which is electric sensor and is a common fault with transits so was worth a try but no luck....... to me it does not seem like a fuel problem it seems more electrical a sensor ??? but which one and where ??? Vauxhall say this is a common fault but as I said it does not seem like a fuel problem if it is a common fault there must be someone out there that has found the cure and not by replacing all the fuel system ???

There should be a sensor in the fuel rail which detects the fuel pressure from the pump, that could have an intermittent fault causing the fuel to shut off if it detects a (false) pressure drop. The running pressure in the rail is a constant 1350 bar. This sensor will flag up a fault if it detects a drop, false or not. Not sure of the cost of a new one but an injection specialist may be able to tell you if the sensor is faulty.

If as you say Vauxhall say it's a common fault, then why don't they know what it is?

Hi Thanks for that will find out about pressure sensor and let you know.

As for Vauxhall thier approach is to change everything and charge you for it in the hope that one of the items is the problem great work if you can get it!!!!!

Has anyone suggested that it could be a dud/faulty fuel pressure regulator? The code you have been given does tell you what the fault is, it's low pressure in the fuel rail, so it has to be a pressure drop somewhere from the pump (if you say you have replaced this then post this point) and the rail. I know it's not a diesel but my X30XE had a similar issue where it cut out and had a low pressure at rail fault and it was the FPR that was gone. Repalced this (£70+VAT IIRC) and shabang it was running sweet.

I have the same problem on my 2004 renault master 2.5

cuts out when driving
key on/off when moving, instantly restarts and runs normal for 1 hour to 1 month.

Really, in all my years on the road, I have never come accross a means of transport that will just cut out like this. it is deadly and is practically not repairable( short of changing every single component out and crossing your fingers (which is the same as not repairable))

To me, this is a serious and life threatening design fault. If you are overtaking on the motorway(or many other critical situations) , this can kill you or someone else. It renders the van unroadworthy from an insurance point of view. if you have an accident, caused by this fault, and you where fully aware of the fault, yet stil took to the roads , your insurance will not pay.you are screwed big time and possibly bankrupt thereafter.
I have read on various forums about people looking for help with this exact same problem. I fully expect that renault and opel(vauxhall) are 100% aware of this problem, but why on earth should they resolve it with a call back , when they can earn f*&king fortune on it !

Take it to a diesel specialist rather than a dealer, they usually know what they are doing and will probably be cheaper.
