hi all ijust bought a vauxhall vectra from the auctions when i got it home i noticed a orange light on the dash was on it looks like a little engine any ideas

Yes this is the engine management unit indicating a fault. You have to take it to a vauxhall dealer to get a diagnostic code from it, this will tell you what the fault is. Could be cheap, but sadly often not. If you need a new ECU reckon on about £350 - £500, ow!

Dont panick.

Very very unlikely it will require an ECU. Do you know what engine type it has ?

X16XEL
X18XE
Z18XEL
X20XEV
X20DTL
And so on

All these engine types have ther own individual common problems..

Have a look and post here.

Eddie M is correct in diagnosing the engine management light and the fact that you need TECH2 to read the code. but dont throw in the towel just yet..
