Vax 121 had a burning smell tried again later, it still works but burning smell again.
I dismantled hoping the brushes were worn but not to be. I cannot see any signs of burning in the coils or wiring, but it certainly needs a good clean (25 years old).
The motor spins freely and there doesn't appear to be any play in the bearings but it sounds like it needs oiled / greased, it spins smooth but sounds rough. I seem to recall a kind of squelch sound when it stopped when I switched of after smelling burning.
Can anyone guide on what to check next, I do have a multimeter but would probably need guidance on usage other than for checking for live mains (thats all I use it for) as I am not an electrician.
Basically I would like to check to see if the motor is screwed.
