Had a search but can't find what I am looking for .

I need to vent both a cooker hood and tumble dryer through a wall but the outside is high/unreachable. I need 4" flues that can be pushed and sealed through from the inside. Can anyone point me towards the item I need and stockists?

Thanks

Actually, I can see there is a Greenwood FastFix duct which is 100mm - this would be OK for the tumble dryer, but the hood needs 120mm. Any idea of one that is this size?

If you can get some access at ground level below where the hole in the wall then it is is possible to fit an external grill with a bit of improvisation.

Make the hole in the wall from inside. Assemble the external grill onto a length of 4 inch solid ducting with the angle the same as the angle of the hole in the wall and about three inches longer that the hole in the wall. Put a mark on the end of the duct at the bottom so you can tell which way the grill is when it is on the wall.

Lower a length of thin cord through the hole so it reaches the ground, Thread it through the duct and the grill and then back through a different slot in the grill, Tie the end into a loop that is several inches longer that the hole through the wall. Now you can pull the duct and grill upto the outside of the hole. With a dainty hand through the hole manouver the duct through the hole and check it looks OK from outside. If necessary lower and adjust. When all is OK lower it again and add suitable glue / sealant to the inside face of the grill so it will stick and seal to the wall.

Pull it back up, put it in place and allow time for glue to fix it to the wall. Keep tension on the string to hold the grill in place. When set cut the loop and remove string. Fit internal fan and be ventilated.

Sounds like a good idea, and also a good bit cheaper. One question though - do they all need to be face glued? It seems like an additional faff - is there nothing with a gasket etc?

Thanks

You could use cable ties thru vent hole to secure external vent cover without adhesive or sealant.
My method is usually to drill small [8mm] hole right thru from inside 10mm below intended hole site.
drop a line thru and attach bucket outside and pull up to just under drill site [square bucket best].
Drill hole from inside clear as you go and breakout will fall into bucket.
Lower bucket and empty.
Drop a weighted line thru the hole and pull up out cowl , you can run silicon around inner face of cowl either before pulling up or thru the hole once pulled up.
Cowl needs two pieces of string or cable ties attached to help position and then tie off inside till set.
Then you can add liner etc from inside before fan install.

Last questions!

For a tumble dryer and a cooker hood is a Cowl Vent and a Flap Vent both suitable? I want it to be as protected from the wind as possible, so would imagine that a cowl vent is best as it is more shielded (and can have a backdraught flap as part of it). Its unclear though if they are only suitable for gas outlets.
