Veritas 8 faulty zone?

I am trying to get a Veritas 8 alarm system to set. This system was installed by a previous owner.

When I enter my code, prior to pressing "Full", the zone 1 light is on and the unset light flashes.

If I then press "Full", the panel bleeps with one bleep probably about a second apart (maybe a bit less). It continues to do this and never arms.

When I press "omit" to attempt to arm without zone 1, all zones light up but zone 1 flashes. All zones can be disabled apart from zone 1, which gives a low pitched beep.

Zone 1 is, according to the sheet, the magnetic door contact on the door we use to enter/exit the house. I have tried setting with the door open and closed but there's no difference.

Can anyone suggest some steps to diagnose the problem?

sounds like zone 1 is permanently open, so you may need to replace the contact a couple of quid from screwfix.

if you twist the wires together in the contact and try and arm it should arm okay.

try just full to set the system, as usually it is set for quick arm ie no code required to start setting procedure.

Thanks very much. Can you explain a little more about what you mean by "twist the wires together"? Do I have to take the contact apart? I'm fine with that, but very inexperienced with alarms. All I have done so far is change the battery.

Do I need to turn off at the fuse box?

Will try just "full".

the contact is in two parts, a magnet, and a reed to which the alarm panel is wired.

you will see two wires wired across the reed switch, there is no power to it so no need to switch it off.

out of interest you may actually want to check zone 1 inside the panel if the problem showed up after replacing the battery to make sure its still wired up in the zone.

Turns out the contacts weren't lining up properly! They must be really quite sensitive... they were only about 5mm out of line.
