Hi All
I pulled out a Victorian fireplace yesterday as I am restoring it (stripping paint on the surround and replacing the insert). The intention is for the fireplace to be for aesthetic reasons only - not functional.
When the fireplace came out so did a whole lot of masonry. Much to the displeasure of the Mrs a fair bit ended up on the carpet (whoops!) See the before and after cleanup photos.
I'm looking for some reassurance that the remainder of the firebox is not liable to collapse and push out the fireplace in the future or whether I should be looking at replacing the masonry behind?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
