We're just in the process of removing the unsightly modern tiles that have been laid over the original chequer pattern quarry tiles in our hall.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of damage to the original tiles and therefore they can't be reused. But the floor is sound so i plan to re-tile over the top using original style tiles to recreate the original floor in the same pattern as the original floor.
However, the original floor looks to have been laid without any grout between the tiles. Is this likely? Can i recreate it with modern tiles?
I also want to lift a couple of the undamaged tiles to replace some of the still exposed originals in the porch. Any suggestions on how best to do this without damaging them?
All advice appreciated.
