I'm just laying very yellow vinyl in kids bathroom... Door in is from a hallway that will be carpeted, where is it best for gripper to sit? I'm thinking it has to be where my ruler is sitting?
Otherwise you'd see the vinyl from hallway.....

Cut vinyl off here now, or glue down and cut later?

The transition will be at the door stops- very close to your ruler. You don't need to trim the vinyl. You can cut the bar to length and then screw it down on top of the vinyl. You can then cut away the excess at the end of the bar. The bar will butt up to the hallway side of the doorstops.

Halfway under the doorway. It’s called a door trim. The grippers go around the perimeter for the carpet.
