Could you help me fix a simple but nightmarish problem? I replaced a Dual Flush toilet syphon universal valve, VIVA. Everything was good until the local water company told me I was losing water. I had a very fine trickle from the tank into the bowl. So, ensuring the water in the tank wasn't overfilling and trickling down the overflow tube on the flush valve and buying a VIVA Skylo diaphragm washer and replacing it, I still have the same water trickle problem. I would like to know what holds the diaphragm washer over the flush valve and prevents it from leaking through. Is it the weight of the water in the tank, or does the mechanism have sufficient weight to hold it firm over the flush valve? I can't see any other cause for the trickle except someone out there might know why I have the problem.

Or is it leaking through the bottom of the cistern, you will have to remove the cistern and tighten up the large nut underneath if its loose.

1. Do you have a syphon, or a flush valve?
2. If a syphon then the WC can leak water into the bowl only if the inlet valve:
2.1 Is adjusted so the water level is too high and the water is gong down the internal overflow into the bowl. OR
2.2 Is faulty and letting water through when it should shut off.
3. A flush valve can let water through:
3.1 If the inlet valve is maladjusted or faulty as above. OR
3.2 The flush valve itself is not sealing. They seal with a rubber washer, and are held down by their own weight.
4. Photograph(s) of the WC showing the syphon or flush valve, and the water level in the cistern when full would help a more exact diagnosis.
