I have a Linea 24 Combi Boiler. Just had the bathroom re-plastered where the builder took the radiator off the wall, and then replaced after plastering. The central heating works fine, but I have no hot water.

What first caused concern is when I tried to refill the boiler, and turned filling/inlet valve, there was no water being pumped into the boiler.

Had a Corgi plumber round, who first of all removed the filling/inlet valve and put a new one on. Still no joy :(

Then he ordered a new DHW Flow Switch, and fitted the new one today. However, the boiler still wasn't firing up when the hot tap was turned on, even though the water was flowing out the tap. He said this may be a faulty part, and has ordered another one

What he actually did do was that he found a way of getting the boiler to fire when the tap was on, but it would be constantly on and I would have to turn the boiler off to stop the boiler.

He said that if the new DHW Flow Switch didn't work when he fits the new one , he didn't know what it could be

So basically, I have central heating, no error codes have come up on the boiler, and when I turn the hot tap on I get water but not hot water as the boiler isn't firing. I also don't seem to have lost any pressure as the flow coming out the taps is the same as before.

Anybody have any ideas what the problem might be?

You have not stated if the new filling valve has repressurised the boiler?

You seem to have a pretty useless CORGI if he cannot diagnose simple faults like this!

Pity there is not some required test of competence at fixing boilers!

Get a different corgi in

It sounds like the non return valve is stuck on the ch isolator end of the filling loop. Very common fault on Lineas.

Also try turning ch isolator shut then open again, this sometimes opens up the valve to let you re-pressurise the system.

Agile/gas4you:-

The new filling/inlet valve lets the boiler fill and I believe repressurises the boiler in that the guage needle moves upwards, and remains constant when I turn the valve off after filling.

The engineer I had actually has put the new valve in a different place for some reason and had to fit a new length of pipe running off another one, can't remember why exactly!! (I'll ask him when he returns).

When the engineer suspected a faulty DHW Flow Switch, he said he could bypass the DHWFS, and the boiler would remain constantly fired. This was when he said we could have hot water this way, but would have to turn the boiler off to stop the boiler from firing. I turned round to say no thanks so we could have our central heating.

The ch isolator, is that on the orignal filling/inlet valve? (sorry to sound thick, but just a frustrated boiler owner!!!). If so do I just turn this a few times, or is there something else I need to turn? I'm looking at the installation/serving instructions manual where I an see a ch return valve on the left with a ch flow valve next to it. (Don't worry I'm not going to touch something I shouldn't).

Just a another quick question while I'm here, how long should it take to have diagnosed that there may be a faulty DHWFS, and how long should it take to fit a new one?

It should take about 10 minutes to identify the nature of the fault.

It could be that the system flow switch is operating on CH but insufficiently on DHW.

The cause of that could be a blocked plate HE or stuck non return valve and they would take an hour or so to identify and fix properly.

Some Lineas do not have a flow switch Tony

Thorpester, do you have cold water at the hot tap? Is it possible the cold water inlet has a remote stop tap?

If you installer is suggesting short circuiting the HW flow switch, you may want to ditch him. Also, the three position filling valve can only fit the boiler at one location and that is cold water inlet connection on the boiler (last pipe on the right under the boiler)

True Danny, but what do you suggest it might be if its one with no system flow switch?
