On the drivers door there are the two hinges and halfway between them is a brassy coloured restrainer which I guess prevents the door swinging wide. That mechanism appears to have worked loose and the top bolt has fallen inside the door. I have found the nut. It clanks like mad ! Has anyone a suggestion on how to tackle this. I assume the inside trim would have to be removed first to get at the bits and pieces. Any help would be appreciated.

Get a haynes manual from halfords, that will show you where the fixings are for the door card - probably screws hidden in the pull handles behind some blanks, push fittings on the bottom edge and just lift up and off the top edge by the window seal. Will need to remove door lock pulls, latch handle trims [but probably not handle itself].
You will need to remove the door card but that doesn't guarantee you'll be able to get to the restraint bracket, door skin will have some apertures in it but it's doubtful they'll be exactly where you want them, and all the window track will be in the way too.

Thanks ,all done and dusted. Needed a new strap.
